I also had a great time with my gig at the ICA. They put me in the theater and the view was gorgeous!! Here are some pics from that.

It has taken a while to "recover" from Figment First Night. It was freezing and I was sore for days afterwards. I have also been relaxing and enjoying not having to paint. The response from First Night attendees was great, although I did have my first "hater". I overheard a woman saying "the neon colors are nice, but it's really bad art." hehehe. I suppose this means I am a real artist now. I took some pictures, but they didn't turn out great. It's so difficult to take pics of blacklight art, especially with ambient regular light.
2 days til Figment First Night and I am still painting like a mad woman. I will definitely have 1 side of each ornament completed and I am thinking of puttibg #FFN15 on the back of half of them. I will be dropping off my ladder tomorrow night for it to be transported to the Commons by someone who is driving a truck on site. Wheee!!!
I have been painting like a mad woman. I have 14 out of the 24 ornaments at least partially painted and 2 that are complete. For now, I am just painting one side so that I know for sure I can get that completed in time. If I still have enough time once that is done, I will start painting stuff on the other side. Tomorrow, my lights are supposed to arrive and tomorrow night is an artist walk-through. I will get to see where my tree is located and I can plan how I am going to hang the lights and ornaments. Here are some of the painted ornaments.
I have all of the ornaments primered and painted with the base, solid color. Here are some pics, including the start of painting the icons on the first 2 ornaments.
I'm very excited to be VJing tomorrow night at Arc Nightclub for Mr. C, who was in the Shamen!!!! This is huge for me!
I am super excited! I decided to submit a project for Figment First Night 2015 and I was accepted and will be funded! I am doing a tree lighting project with blacklights and neon acrylic painted ornaments that will have icons related to the theme of Innovation, Imagination, and Celebration. This is the first time I have submitted a project proposal for funding and it will definitely be the biggest event I have ever done an art project for. My tree will be located in the Figment First Night section of the Boston Commons, somewhere near the Park Street T stop. I have a lot of work ahead of me. I want to do 24 ornaments and hope to make them 2-sided, which means 48 separate pictures.
I have started working on my Figment First Night project. I bought the wood, primer, and fluorescent UV reactive spray paint to start the ornaments. Here is a pic of some of the wood pieces after their first sanding. The jar with glowing liquid is my paint brush rinse jar, but it looks like it could be radioactive.
Here are pics of my finished K9. These pics were taken before it was put on the remote control car that I have. Unfortunately, the remote control car isn't very powerful, so when I tried to test it out in the woods at a festival, it wouldn't drive over the leaves that were on the ground. So, I'm going to have to find a more powerful and hopefully all terrain remote control car for it to go on. These pics also don't show the tail extended.
The body, head, K9, and control pad on top are all made from foam board put together with duct tape and painted. The tail is a telescoping marshmallow roasting stick with the forked end broken off and a cap from a colored pencil glued on the end. The ears are plastic window screen that I glued to heavy duty wire and painted. The nose is a nut and bolt painted black. The eyes are red vinyl and I made the top of the head hinged so I could put an LED bulb with battery inside so the eyes would light up. The neck is dryer hose and the collar, which I took liberty with, is a plastic bracelet with fake rhinestones. |
