I made it through Halloween. I was able to make a lot of deco because I could work on it at my own pace over a number of weeks. Setup went well too because I was able to do a lot of stuff on Friday night and only a couple of hours before the party with several hours of rest in between. I felt a migraine headache coming on Saturday afternoon, but was able to stop it with my medication. I have added a bunch of pics of some of the deco I made for the Halloween party, which was a take on the Bates Motel, the Slades Motel.
My neurological issues had been getting better until a month ago when they did a 180 and I was back to where I started with worse symptoms and some new ones. The most significant new one is bouts of intense vertigo accompanied by feeling light headed and like I am going to pass out. The first time lasted about an hour and subsequent bouts have been 5-10 minutes. I ended up back at the ophthalmologist and neurologist. My neurologist mentioned atypical seizures as a possibility, which was my fear, so she started me on Topamax. It's been quite a 4 months. I am so happy with how this turned out, although it still needs finishing touches. The hard part will be deciding what colors the next one will be!
2 days til Figment First Night and I am still painting like a mad woman. I will definitely have 1 side of each ornament completed and I am thinking of puttibg #FFN15 on the back of half of them. I will be dropping off my ladder tomorrow night for it to be transported to the Commons by someone who is driving a truck on site. Wheee!!!
I am super excited! I decided to submit a project for Figment First Night 2015 and I was accepted and will be funded! I am doing a tree lighting project with blacklights and neon acrylic painted ornaments that will have icons related to the theme of Innovation, Imagination, and Celebration. This is the first time I have submitted a project proposal for funding and it will definitely be the biggest event I have ever done an art project for. My tree will be located in the Figment First Night section of the Boston Commons, somewhere near the Park Street T stop. I have a lot of work ahead of me. I want to do 24 ornaments and hope to make them 2-sided, which means 48 separate pictures.
Here are pics of my finished K9. These pics were taken before it was put on the remote control car that I have. Unfortunately, the remote control car isn't very powerful, so when I tried to test it out in the woods at a festival, it wouldn't drive over the leaves that were on the ground. So, I'm going to have to find a more powerful and hopefully all terrain remote control car for it to go on. These pics also don't show the tail extended.
The body, head, K9, and control pad on top are all made from foam board put together with duct tape and painted. The tail is a telescoping marshmallow roasting stick with the forked end broken off and a cap from a colored pencil glued on the end. The ears are plastic window screen that I glued to heavy duty wire and painted. The nose is a nut and bolt painted black. The eyes are red vinyl and I made the top of the head hinged so I could put an LED bulb with battery inside so the eyes would light up. The neck is dryer hose and the collar, which I took liberty with, is a plastic bracelet with fake rhinestones. I took some more time out from working on Technicolor Death to work on more Doctor Who themed art. This is the body. It will be fitting over an old remote control SUV I had laying around. Hopefully I can find the remote for it or it won't be as awesome. Meet K9.
New glitter cat masks with crin and ribbons and sterling silver beads I made that are now up for sale at the Made in Fort Point Store in Boston. A closeup of each can be seen in my Project Gallery.
Here's one of the Technicolor Death skulls without blacklight. It's amazing what a difference the blacklight makes. Using UV reactive acrylics is awesome!
